Signer "Giving it up to feel effected" - 2000
Mysterious mutant offspring of Aspen, Bevan Smith returns under the Signer guise, producing an album of tracks as 'experiments in the movement of ambient music'. Signer allows Smith to add more cogent and driving rhythm patterns to the Aspen sound. The music is deep: bass heavy inputs fed through shifting and fused textures. Minimal in nature and taking inspiration from the Berlin dub-techno scene, Signer retains the space and serenity of the Involve sound. Harder rhythms map out a more defined space, but the classic freedom of Smith's ambisonic textures means that the space is never confining. The listener glides effortlessly within the rhythms, without limitation.
